Dov Schwarz: A Prophesied Perilous Generation

We should be a harbor of safety for people in the midst of the shark infested waters of this perilous generation.
We should be a harbor of safety for people in the midst of the shark infested waters of this perilous generation.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2 Timothy 3:5

Some would tell us that since the last days began in Acts 2 at Pentecost this verse must speak of all generations since then. But notice Paul is in the “last days” when he writes this passage to Timothy. Paul is speaking of a future and final generation in the last days. The character of people is summed up in one word “SELFISHNESS”. They are a people who are lovers of themselves which then causes their spiral downward expressed in these horribly dark tendencies. The worst of all is that they love themselves more than our Creator and Savior though they have a wolf in sheep’s clothing false appearance of Him. They deny the power of the true and living God which is the gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16).

It is painfully obvious with the signs of famine, floods, earthquakes in various places, pestilences, wars, and the specifically Biblically prophesied nations coming against the physically re-established nation of Israel that this perilous generation is upon us!

The best thing to do is make sure of two things: One is that we are not in this category of apostasy, and the second, with the exception of sharing the gospel with them and being a witness to our Lord Jesus, is to stay away from folks who are! What I mean is do not have “unequally yoked” ties with them.

Today is a day to be the opposite of these perilous people. Be lovers of our Lord Jesus and other people more than yourself. Be generous, boasting on Jesus and those He sends to help you for any accomplishments in your life. Let’s be humble, with our speech honoring our Abba Father and a reverence toward our parents or the memory of those who are passed. In Africa, where I often preach the gospel, they are often thankful for the little they have while we seem to have lost the gratefulness to the Lord for having food, clothing, and a warm bed at night. We should be holy reflections of Messiah Jesus, loving the closest among us in our own homes, keeping our word, and looking at our own sins before those of others. Gentleness and kindness should be our testimony along with loyalty, lowliness, lovers of the Lord and His people. Our godliness should emanate from the firm foundation of faith in our crucified and risen Savior. We should be a harbor of safety for people in the midst of the shark infested waters of this perilous generation.

I pray these things become the reality of our testimony so that we will not be ashamed when King Jesus returns for us: And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 1 John 2:28

Glory to the Name of Jesus our King who is coming soon!
